AN IMPROV WORKSHOP FOR UNCERTAIN TIMES with Resident Company Member Bruce Randolph Nelson

Improv isn’t about being funny—it’s about being present. This three-hour beginner session uses core improv principles like “Yes, and,” deep listening, and collaboration to build compassion, openness, and resilience. Through playful, low-pressure exercises, participants learn to respond instead of react, support instead of control, and stay curious instead of defensive. The skills transfer directly to everyday life—relationships, work, creativity, and leadership. You’ll leave feeling energized and connected. No experience required—just a willingness to show up and say yes.

The Student Spotlight Series at Everyman Theatre is the ultimate social event for students in high school and college who want to see a play, meet other students interested in theatre, and engage directly with the artists who create professionally. This exciting program builds and maintains a community for the next generation of both theatre artists and audience members. 

Students in high school and college are invited to the Student Spotlight Series, a special event that takes our productions to a whole new level.

Join us for dinner and dessert, inside access to the show, a pre-show design presentation, and post-show discussions with the cast.

12:30pm Student arrival 

12:30pm – 1:00pm Lunch and an Inside Look into the Production 

1:00pm – 1:30pm Pre-Show Discussion with a member of the production team 

1:30pm – 1:50pm Tour of Facilities, Gallery Walk, and Bathroom Break 

2:00pm – 4:00pm* Performance 4:00 pm – 4:30 pm* Cast Conversation

This class invites students to identify, explore, and integrate the fundamental tools necessary for creating authentic characters and performing them onstage. Activate the body, exercise the voice, analyze text, engage the imagination, and increase your focus. This class culminates in sharing monologues with your peers. Memorization is expected.

Join the ensemble as we create an original -- and magical! -- play. Students create characters, write a script, and rehearse a new play set in a world steeped in magic and magical creatures. Over the course of 8 weeks, students hone their acting skills and embrace storytelling, and the course culminates in sharing a small piece of theatre with their friends and family!

Get your story books and prepare to explore your creativity! Together, the ensemble will choose a storybook to bring to life through music, dance, drama, and design. This seven-week course builds dramatic language and social-emotional skills. The last class features a final sharing of their story-based adventures.

Calling all budding comedians. This fast-paced class invites creative risk-taking as students create a witty improvised comedy show to perform for family and friends. With a special focus on sketch-comedy and improvisation games that cultivatecore skills of the theatre-artist, students will deepen their appreciation for the diversity of the art form.
